The consultation generated detailed comments from residents, market traders, nearby businesses, event organisers, access groups and visitors who use the square at different times of day.
Main themes raised
People strongly supported making the square safer and more comfortable, especially around crossing points, evening lighting and seating. Businesses asked for clear servicing arrangements, while event organisers highlighted the need for reliable power, water access and flexible open space.
The project team has reviewed every response and grouped the findings into key themes covering movement, public realm, trading, events, safety and long-term maintenance.
What happens next
The updated design will be considered alongside the consultation findings before a final recommendation is brought back to the council.
